I took her out immediately and was left with the option of returning to her apartment where she previously lived independently prior to a fall and rehab.
Since she had the fall and was weaker than before i have been living with her and am her full time caregiver. It's a one bedroom apt and i sleep on a mattress on the living room floor.
She has dementia and is screaming at me most of the time. I am her power of attorney, health care surrogate and executor of her living will.
I need advice as to what my legal rights and obligations are. She previously had help from having a lifeline service that would call me and 911 if she fell. I suspended that since myself or a granny sitter is here 24 x 7. I would like to restore lifeline and try to resume my life, but i need to know the legal responsibility and ramifications are.
In addition to the granny sitter medicaid will provide 9 hours a week to clean, do laundry, be a companion, etc however i can't keep their service because she winds up screaming at them and calling them names.
I have her on waiting list at 2 nursing homes - I tried to pick the best in the area - some i looked at were miserable places. These two of course have a long waiting list.
I have a brother and sister who live way out of state and wouldn't take her in anyway.
She has constantly caused problems with my wife and has called and cussed her out and called her terrible names. I can't and wouldn't bring her there either.
I have tried getting her on medication but the psychiatrists have ordered these anti psychotic drugs that have horrendous side effects. We tried them and she immediately had tremors and signs of tardive dyskinesia which is horrible to see.
This has become an unbelievable nightmare for both her and myself.
Do I have any options?
Thank you for any help/advice you can give.
